The 30th Anniversary Jubilee of Tjong A Fie’s Leadership in Medan
The 30th anniversary celebration of Tjong A Fie’s leadership in 1916 marked an important moment reflecting his influence in the social life of Medan. The event was attended by various groups, including colonial officials, community leaders, and representatives from different regions.
The program included official ceremonies, meetings with regional leaders, as well as participation from students of the Chinese community in Medan. The celebration was further enriched by cultural activities such as the Chinese New Year festivities accompanied by a traditional Chinese cultural parade (Chingay) and processions, reflecting broad public involvement.
In 1904, this honor was conferred upon Tjong A Fie, a prominent figure in Medan who served as Captain of the Chinese, and was widely known as a successful businessman and philanthropist. His role as an intermediary between the colonial authorities and the Chinese community, along with his contributions to social and economic development in the Deli region, made him an influential leader. The award of the Kleine Golden Star reflects official recognition of his loyalty, leadership, and service within the colonial society.
