Antique Oil Lamp

This is  an old oil lamp with a cute cat design used back in the days in the kitchen. This is used to help the chefs see clearly while cooking and working. This way, the chef could make less mistakes while cooking thus improving their cooking efficiency.

Therefore, this shows us that life back than was very different from the life we live today thanks to the advancement of technology that has provided us with a variety of new alternatives to choose from.

Oil lamps were first used in Indonesia around the 8th to 10th century. Compared to other early alternatives such as open torches and simple animal-fat candles, oil lamps were a more popular choice because they produced cleaner, longer-lasting, and more reliable light, thus making them the most stable form of lighting at that time

Oil lamps were also widely used by the general public in Indonesia and across Southeast Asian, not just exclusively by the Tjong A Fie family alone.

However, the Tjong A Fie family did had quite a remarkable collection of oil lamps back than. The impressive collection ranges from Chinese and Peranakan porcelain oil lamps to Victorian/European Kerosene Lamps, and later on even including Dutch Colonial Hanging Lamps.
